A Dutch newspaper has released an article on new legislation in the Dutch ports regarding the use of external personnel for the securing of cargo on board container vessels. Most vessels still use the crew on board to secure the containers, leading to high workloads for the mostly foreign crews.

This new legislation will result in an increase in costs for the vessel operators as they will now have to hire external workers for the securing of the containers. Most people are unaware that the Siri Weather Dependent Lashing system that is widely used on Ro-ro and ro-pax vessels can also be used on the short sea container trade.
